Autumn Term
Posted: Nov 21, 2024 by: Debbie Bagwell (dbagwell) on: Rowan Class
The pupils in Rowan class have all settled in well following the summer break.
They have been working hard and have done lots of activities since being back at school.
In English they have produced writing at their own levels of independence based on the stories Winnie the Witch and The Messy Magpie- a story about recycling and the historical tale of Guy Fawkes and the Gun Powder Plot. Some of the pupils’ work has been so good we have displayed it the classroom.
Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about diversity as we look at the story My Magic Family and our sensory learners will continue to join a communication group for a story about the seasons.
In Numeracy our developing and emerging learners have been working on Number Family Facts and subtraction. Our sensory learners have been learning Numeracy through number songs, exploring sensory trays and physical objects such as 3D shapes and building blocks. In the weeks leading up to Christmas we will be looking at shape and addition.
Art lessons have enabled the pupils to explore the Mexican Festival of the ‘Day of the Dead’. The pupils have enjoyed looking at different Artists and making their own ‘skull art’ using a range of methods. This half term we are having music sessions with Ben the music specialist. All the pupils have been joining in and are enjoying playing and exploring different instruments.
Learners with Physical Development goals have been doing well in their Conductive Education sessions and pupils with PE goals have continued joined sensory PE or visit local leisure centres for swimming and P.E sessions.
In Life Skills we have been baking lots of different recipes such as Swiss roll and blueberry muffins. The pupils really enjoy baking and have been learning new skills such as how to follow a recipe and how to use appliances and utensils safely.
We will shortly be starting our preparations for the Christmas Fair, so will be making seasonal gifts and products. Also, we will begin practicing for our annual Christmas production. Hope to see you there!!
