Willow Spring term

This term has been extremely busy, with a wide range of exciting activities! Our 'Topic' has focused on ‘Transport by Air and Sea,’ and here's a summary of what we have covered:
In Design and Technology (DT), we’ve been busy designing, making, and testing our cars and boats. We’ve enjoyed putting our creations to the test to see how well they work!
In History, we’ve been learning about Christopher Columbus and exploring some of the fascinating things he brought back from his voyages.
In Numeracy, our focus has been on number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and money. We’ve also explored basic position and direction by programming 'bee-bots' to move forward, backward, left, and right.
In Literacy, our focus has been on fiction. We’ve explored a variety of texts, including The Journey Home from Grandpa’s, stories about Christopher Columbus, and the Easter story. Pupils have also continued to engage in reading and phonics activities to develop their early reading skills.
A highlight of the term was celebrating Chinese New Year. The pupils loved learning about the Chinese zodiac through ‘The Great Race’ story. They also had the chance to taste Chinese food and create Chinese lamps, snakes, and dragons.
The pupils have participated in Community Visits to places like the park, Morrisons, and the café. These visits provided a range of experiences in different environments, enriching their understanding of the world around them. Our day trip to the Maritime Museum was another fantastic opportunity for the pupils to engage with maritime history and explore a variety of maritime artefacts.
During Science Week, we focused on ‘Forces’—specifically pushes and pulls and magnetism. The pupils had a great time carrying out practical experiments and learning through hands-on activities.
